THE USE OF LOCATOR SYSTEM IN RETENTION OF THE UPPER COMPLETE DENTURE-CASE REPORT

Abstract:
Retention is the ability of the denture to resist the forces that tend to move it in a vertical direction. The aim of this paper is the case report of the upper edentulous jaw where the retention and stabilization of the denture was achieved using the locator system (Implant direct legasy 3, USA). The 51-year-old male patient came to Dental Prosthodontic Clinic for prosthetic restauration of the upper edentulous and lower partially edentulous jaw. In the upper jaw, the implantation of dental implants in region 13, 15, 23, 25 was done (Implant direct legasy 3,USA). In the lower jaw, the four remaining teeth were prepared and implantation in region 36, 45, 46 was done (Implant direct legasy 3,USA). During the period of osseointegration of 4 months, the patient was wearing temporary dental restoration, which was relieved in the area of the implant. In the upper jaw, a complete denture on implants was made (four locator systems with retention tires from 0 - 10 degrees - 3 lbs). The denture base was made from Co, Cr, Mo alloys, labial and buccal part of restoration were maximally extensible in the vestibulum, while denture plate in the palatinal area was maximally reduced. This design of the denture significantly improves the quality of patient’s life. The lower jaw was prosthetically rehabilitated by a semicircular metallic ceramic bridge. With the use of modern materials such as locator system, good retention and stabilization of mobile dental restorations is achieved, which enables a significant reduction of the denture plate. This denture provides greater comfort to the patient and significantly influences the improvement of his quality of life.
