Abstract:
Water is a unique and irreplaceable natural resource of limited quantity. Since all forms of life and all human activity are more or less related to water, it clearly shows how much it is important to people. This is also reflected in the price of water which goes up every year. When the question of industrial water is concerned, there are two basic lines of action: • reducing the amount of water used in technological process (re-using, reducing water supply network losses, etc.) • reducing the cost of water abstraction and distribution by using various technical solutions (regulation of supply, by reducing the pressure in the network, by automation and surveillance of distribution of water, by substituting drinking water for process water, etc.). Water management in the industry turns into a kind of movement under the slogan "Fresh water - zero" . The aim is that once the water enters the system it must be sending back to system over and over again, with suitable processing, so that the intake of fresh water is minimized. Since the water in the processes is used both as a raw material and as an energy source, and that it is at the same time being polluted, it is clear that it affects the efficiency of the whole process. This paper presents a brief overview of the techniques and skills to minimize water consumption in the industry, and it also deals with the question of how our industry is ready for the implementation of the IPPC directivse and the best available techniques, concerning water in the processes.
